For the exhibition 'REHEARSALS from the Korean Avant - Garde Performance Archive', artist Hyun Joon Chang will present a new performance work entitled 'A Conversation between Generations Deprived of Generations &
A Conversation without a Counterpart' as a contribution to the group exhibition.
About
Hyun Joon Chang will perform a new performance piece based on his initial encounter with the artist Neung-Kyung Sung. This performance attempts to establish a cross-generational dialogue with Neung-Kyung Sung, inspired by Chang’s realisation that he had not been aware of the practice of the first generation of Korea’s performance artists before. Instead of quickly restoring the bridge between the different generations, Chang instead wants to highlight the existing gaps and interruptions. In this performance, Chang assigns the body of another person as a stand-in for Neung-Kyung Sung. The absence of Neung-Kyung Sung’s body in the actual performance is not a deficiency but actually a rich resource for complicating the dialogue and connections that Chang wishes to achieve. In so doing, Chang aims to create a new layer of understanding between him and the works of Neung-Kyung Sung.
