A virtual panel discussion with Katy Richardson and collaborators to discuss the making of 'A Cake of Painted Tin' at Studio KIND.

About

Following Studio KIND’s November exhibition ‘A Cake of Painted Tin’, artist Katy Richardson alongside collaborators and Lucy Rollins (independent curator) will discuss the moving image & sound work exploring the experiences of writer Antonia White with particular reference to her time at Bethlem Hospital in the early 1920s, and a wider discourse around mental health then and now.

A Cake of Painted Tin translates White’s experience into the bodies, voices and gestures of these women collaborators, creating echoes across the almost 100 years since her incarceration at Bethlem. Made in collaboration with an all-female crew, a collective solidarity and empathy manifests here in the present – not just with and for White, but also each other. This panel discussion will shine a light on the part that collaborators have each played in the making of the work, discussing the collaboration and the practices of those involved.

There will be an opportunity for audience members to participate in the conversation throughout the panel discussion.

Katy Richardson (b. 1977, Cuckfield) is an artist based in Plymouth, UK. Her moving image, installation and sound works draw on research into trauma, haunting, memory and mental health.
