About

Throughout June the Belfry will be home to animated bacterial paintings of Ophelia by JoWonder. In Shakespeare's play Hamlet, Ophelia drowns and is suspected of suicide. This Ophelia finds her true self in a place between life and death receiving messages across time and space on an electronic answer phone. . . Bacterial research funded by the Wellcome Trust. Selected as one of this month's top five shows by the Whitechapel First Thursday programme, the exhibition opens on 3 June at 18.00 with a special linked-in performance by JoWonder and her Psychic Tea Leaves at 20.00. With music by Jowie Head this interactive piece adds a new dimension to the Ophelia story, drawing from the dark side of classic fairy tales . . . A cash bar will be open throughout the evening.
