Brookfield Properties x Crafts Council announce co-curation of '5&20' and a solo exhibition celebrating Halima Cassell as the 2024 Brookfield Properties Craft Award winner for their joint anniversary of five years of the Brookfield Properties Craft Award and 20 years of Collect Art Fair.
About
'5&20' group show
With a shared curatorial intention of attempting to define what contemporary craft is, Brookfield Properties x Crafts Council proposes a shortlist of artists who, through their creations, have shaped the art world's perception and understanding of craft from a peripherical and isolated discipline to a newly established art form, in UK and internationally.
With over more than 30 objects on display ranging in medium from glass, ceramics, and jewellery to metal artworks, the show proposes a selection of works by the Crafts Council Collection never shown before to the public.
Halima Cassell solo show
Recognised as one of the most distinctive and dynamic ceramicist sculptors, Halima Cassell was awarded the 2024 Brookfield Properties Craft Award - the leading UK craft prize and in partnership with the Crafts Council - alongside her gallery Joanna Bird, at the Collect Art Fair in March. Before this achievement, Cassell's work was included in notable private and public collections worldwide, including the Victoria & Albert Museum and The Hepworth Wakefield.
Among many other artworks, the show will present 'Virtues of Unity' an ongoing decade sculptural project through which the artist shares with the public her reflections on the importance of defining our sense of identity, now more than ever.
