3x3 talk and workshop for visual artists - Ryan Gander
3x3 is East Street Arts' (ESA) new series of talks and workshops for visual arts practitioners which will invite international curators and artists to present their experiences to groups of visual arts practitioners.
Each 3x3 session will give the visiting speakers the opportunity to present their own work as a starting point to 10-15 participants. This will be followed by group workshops and discussion to increase knowledge about the varied approaches to curating and its relationship to art practice, audiences, criticism and theory.
N.B. Participants will be asked to pass on one idea or question to the curators, prior to the event, facilitating a more informed debate during discussion time.
Having completed a research residency at the Jan van Eyck Akademie in Maastricht, Gander participated in the artists' residency program of the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. His first solo exhibition was held in March 2002 at The International 3 Gallery in Manchester, accompanied by a monograph entitled âIn a language you don't understand'. In 2003, Gander published the artists' book âAppendix', produced a solo exhibition for the âStedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam' and won the âPrix de Rome' for sculpture (the national Dutch art prize). In 2004 a children's' storybook âThe Boy Who Always Looked Up' written by the artist will be published with Cornerhouse in Manchester.
