Sara le Roy is a Dutch artist based in London, her work focusses on story telling, folklore and mortality.
The innovative use of 3D in Sara Le Roy's series of Fairy Tales paintings is not used for its own sake, as a dazzling but ultimately gratuitous method; rather, as in all truly original art, it serves a higher purpose. 3D brings us depth. And the fairy tales themes themselves take us to the lowest layers of the human psyche, to the very mouth of the dark well within, full of the primal mystery. As the child wading into the forest, so do we venture into the depths of these works and we look around us in astonishment, fear, apprehension and excitement. Death is always lurking in the background, it is the dark sun that shines on the characters shown in these paintings and lights them from within. Nor will any of the false promises of technology save them, displayed there in stark contrast to the timelessness of the myth, showing the feeble screens we erect against the inevitability of death for the fakes that they are.
Le Roy has exhibited worldwide including the Rebecca Hossack gallery, Aeroplastics contemporary Brussels and the Mall galleries.
