London Westbank Gallery has the pleasure to announce a new solo exhibition at our current Westbourne Grove venue. The show will be very special to us as Gil Carvalho is one of the finest examples of LWG born and bred. ‘Digital Pop!’ will feature the essence of Gil’s experience of the fashion world presented in his highly consumable pop art form.
About
Gil Carvalho, Portuguese born, initially studied architecture before enrolling at Cordwainers at London College of Fashion to study footwear design. He worked with Vivienne Westwood after graduating and quickly established his name amongst the new breed of shoe designers, launching his own label in 2005. His clientele included Madonna, Kylie, Fergie and Lindsay Lohan. Commissions from the Brunei Royal family followed and from several high-end fashion labels, including LVMH.
The transition from fashion to art came when Gil‘s shoe image was selected and displayed at the infamous Galleries Lafayette in Paris at an emerging artists’ event organized by Diesel. This really gave Gil the confidence to pursue the artistic avenue.
