Entering The Jellyfish you are plunged into a dream-like underwater scene. In this new interactive virtual reality work, glowing lifeforms invite you to sing with them and through them.

As the organisms respond to your voice, which is captured by a microphone in a VR headset, their animated bodies alter depending on the pitch, vibration and intensity of the sound. In turn they react, echoing your voice with their own choir. The experience aims to provoke a playful state of synaesthesia and self-hypnosis, creating a sense of connection with another species.

Mélodie Mousset (b. 1981 Abu Dhabi, UAE. Lives and works in Zurich) works across a number of mediums, including installation, performance, photography, sculpture, video and VR. Her works draw upon personal biography to produce playful and psychologically charged narratives that investigate the interactions between the self and technology, the synthetic and the real. This is Mélodie’s second presentation in the 360: VR Room following HanaHana in 2018.

Edo Fouilloux (b. 1987, Ensenada, Mexico. Lives and works Copenhagen) explores sound, graphics and playful interaction within immersive mediums. Since 2015, Edo has been working alongside research institutions and people around the world, seeking to forge new ways of thinking and playing with real-time interactive audio visuals. Today, he is the director and co-founder of Patch studio — a software house specializing in creating musical tools and playful experiences for XR.
