In this exhibition Ana Rosa Hopkins uses glass as her primary source material, exploring the transformative power of heat to create new forms infused with elements of memory, metaphor and personal experience. Her process is one of continuous experimentation accelerating the passing of time to force physical and cosmic change to the different materials she uses creating new meanings, connections and unpredictable results for her and the viewer
About
In this exhibition Ana Rosa Hopkins uses glass as her primary source material, exploring the transformative power of heat to create new forms infused with elements of memory, metaphor and personal experience. Her process is one of continuous experimentation accelerating the passing of time to force physical and cosmic change to the different materials she uses creating new meanings, connections and unpredictable results for her and the viewer.
Her work balances order and chaos to achieve a transparent seductive beauty which gives birth to new life from destruction and decomposition echoing the depths of time and the nature of creation.
The Sala do Veado presents a selection of her new works in crystal glass including large alchemic laboratory plates and sculpture. Drawing inspiration from local materials and the alchemist’s laboratory techniques the pitted surfaces and mutant forms of her work evoke cosmological monsters.
Ana Rosa Hopkins is a British artist born in Argentina. She is currently studying a PhD in Art & Design at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK. Her recent work has been exhibited in the UK, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Germany and Finland.
