A VERY UNUSUAL BOOK LAUNCH: 3 IN ONE with PERFORMANCES
About
There will be a 3 in 1 book launch on June 29th at the Hastings Bookshop at 7 PM. The launch will feature the book, A Cornish Odyssey, by local writer/artist Axel Forrester, a reading of a segment of the book by actor Tom Balmont, adapted by local writer, John Killeen, and a performance of new work by Roelof Bakker, a Hastings-based artist/writer and the publisher of Negative Press London.
Forrester’s film/video art has been awarded by the American Film Institute and exhibited at the Long Beach Museum of Art, and Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions. Since coming to the UK in 2009, her short story, Life Lessons, has been published with honourable mention in The Saturday Evening Post’s Best American Fiction of 2015. A Cornish Odyssey is her debut novella.
Tom Balmont, a street performer and actor from Sussex found out about A Cornish Odyssey on the Hastings Creative email group. He’s since been working with writer John Killeen to adapt Forrester’s novella into a treatment for the stage. John’s background is in theatre and musical performance, though he is now focused on writing for stage and screen. Originally from Dublin, he came to Hastings two years ago. Roelof Bakker works across photography, writing, artists’ books, publishing and live performance. Forrester invited him to share his work at the launch. Negative Press books are in international collections including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
