On the occasion of its 25th anniversary, the Casa di Goethe Museum in Rome is casting new perspectives on its permanent exhibition. Together with students from weißensee kunsthochschule berlin, interventions have been created that bring contemporary reflections and new insights into the presentation of the collection and connect the museum with our present.
The students have developed their own formal language for the interventions and new exhibition elements. The "Casa di Goethe intervenzioni" will be on display in the permanent exhibition of the Casa di Goethe from 24 March until the end of the year. The students' intervenzioni are directly visible and tangible for visitors. Thus it is only a step from Goethe's
nature studies to a tactile cabinet, from the surviving travel descriptions of southern Italy as a contact zone to North Africa or from historical travel guides to the Lonely Planet. Central questions of contemporary Europe are interwoven here into the exhibition on Goethe's time, such as the tense relationship between North and South, the question of the significance of women for Goethe or the memory of National Socialism. From March 2023, the story of the Jewish family father Guido Zabban, who survived the German occupation in 1943/44 while hiding in the flat on Via del Corso, will also be told for the first time in the intervenzioni.
