For Lawrence

Alice Paltrinieri (b. 1987, Rome, IT) uses sculpture, installation and frottage on paper to box her memories into her works, investigating and re-appropriating herself with a space that she calls home.

About

The exhibition at Galleria Ramo introduces a selection of works that explore the artist’s relationship with a temporary home during her stay in Hudson (New York State, USA).

220 WS, 12534 NY - the title of the exhibition explores Paltrinieri’s experience in a new environment. A home away from home, she brings us on a guided tour of the American apartment. Capturing the passing of time that has long been forgotten. Paltrinieri searchers for every little detail, scratches, scares and traces left at 220 WS, 12534 NY Hudson. By documenting the space, through the use of frottage, sculptures and installations she breathes and creates a connection with our deeper self, laying the foundations for our living conditions.

Paltrinieri’s investigation of the architectural space gazes towards marginal areas bordering on anonymity: equipped with a camera or a pencil, she crosses these terrains, searching for all the particularities. Initially focusing on structural details, magnifying them and bringing them back to life. The works in the exhibition reflect our relationships with our homes. The imperfections become perfections and through a process of upgrading and updating our homes loose our grip with history, trying to forget the imperfections. Paltrinieri manages to conserve our past in beautiful and interesting artworks, showing us to look and challenge’s us to use the imperfections with love and affection. The artist builds from these decadent architectures to better understand the origins of man.

Alice Paltrinieri graduated in 2011 with a set design degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. She has collaborated with internationally renowned artists such as Nina Fowler, Angela de la Cruz, Mauro Di Silvestre, Piero Pizzi Cannella and Lawrence Carroll. Exhibited in Italy and abroad a few of her last exhibitions include; Villa Reale, Monza, Biblioteca Vallicelliana, Rome, and Palazzo Magini, Cortona.
