JORDAN/SEYDOUX celebrates this May its 10th anniversary!

Launched in 2008 in Berlin by Amélie Seydoux and Bernard Jordan the gallery JORDAN/SEYDOUX has since the beginning focused on contemporary drawings and prints.

About

Jordan and Seydoux collaboration results from a mutual attachment to fine art editions, especially formats that provide artists with an opportunity to experiment with printing techniques and thereby open up new fields of creativity.

Amélie Seydoux (born 1972 in Paris) is sociologist by training and has lived in Berlin since 2004. She worked for many years for an association of printmakers in Paris, as well as with her father, Eric Seydoux, a renowned silkscreen printmaker and publisher who in May 1968 spend his days and nights at the atelier populaire des Beaux-Arts de Paris printing the famous posters of the protest mouvement.

Bernard Jordan (born 1956 in Montargis) opened his first gallery in Paris in 1984. In 2008, in addition to the gallery in Berlin he opened a second location in Zurich with a space dedicated specifically to drawing. Whereas the gallery in Berlin is focused on drawings and prints, the galleries in Paris and Zurich also present exhibitions of painting, sculpture, drawing, installation, and photography. Bernard Jordan has paper in his blood: his great-grandfather Augustin Blanchet, together with the brothers Kleber, invented the famous handmade paper BFK Rives (Blanchet Frères Kleber).

During these 10 years, the gallery has organized more than 66 solo and group exhibitions of works by international artists. It has also collaborated on specific projects with museums, galleries, collectors and project spaces, like the "Crosswords" exhibitions series with Offspace Lage Egal or "Made in Zurich", with french collector Philippe Méaille, a show and symposium of and about unpublished early works by Art & Language.

The gallery shows artworks that range from geometrical, minimal (François Morellet, Imi Knoebel, Frank Badur, John Armleder) to figurative to baroque (Françoise Pétrovitch, Nanne Meyer, Damien Deroubaix, Patrick Gabler, Peter Emch, Mark Lammert, Georg Baselitz, Paul van der Eerden), a wide range of fine pieces. Video art (Bertrand Gadenne), ceramics (Elmar Trenkwalder) and installations (Barbara Breitenfellner) were also part of the gallery’s programmation.

The gallery has also taken on the role of publisher of limited editions. The first project was with the Berlin artist Frank Badur and was followed by collaborations with Françoise Pétrovitch, François Morellet, Pierre Buraglio, Imi Knoebel, Patrick Gabler, american artist Jay Shinn for a series of Neon Multiples and lately the gallery has published a woodcut series by formely Berlin-based french artist Damien Deroubaix and an etching by German star Georg Baselitz.

Each print is an original project, signed and numbered by the artist. The number of prints for such editions is usually rather small and their prices are affordable. These original artworks are the result of a close collaboration between the artist and the printmaker. Depending on the technique and artist, the gallery works with printers in Berlin, Paris, Copenhagen, Lille, Brandenburg,…

The 10th Anniversary Exhibition showcases drawings and limited editions by Frank BADUR, Georg BASELITZ, Damien DEROUBAIX, François MORELLET, Nanne MEYER and Françoise PÉTROVITCH. Presenting as well abstract as figurative art the exhibition reflects the diversity of the artists with whom the gallery is working and the variety of what is possible to do within the fields of drawing and print.
