About

The Brücke-Museum is planning a major exhibition for the coming spring that will conclude the exhibition series on the most important years of the artist group. After 1913: The Brücke and Berlin (2018) and 1910: Brücke. Art and Life the beginnings of the Brücke are now to be addressed. In 1905, four young architecture students came together to establish the KG Brücke (KG being short for Künstlergruppe, which translates as “artist group”) in Dresden, with the declared aim of exploring new artistic avenues. Fritz Bleyl was one of the founding members, together with Erich Heckel, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff. Bleyl left the Brücke group as early as 1907, which is why he is less well known to a wider public today – nevertheless, his early works are worth rediscovering. The exhibition will locate the artists and their work in their era and shine a light on the historical work in their contemporary context.

The exhibition and the accompanying magazine will be realized in cooperation with the Kunstsammlungen Zwickau.
