1868
The ‘1868’ show in the main gallery will take you through a year in Merthyr Tydfil’s history, seen through the experiences of local people.
Thirty portraits by artist Anthony Rhys relate the working conditions, housing, health and society of Merthyr Tydfil during a difficult year in the town’s history.
Bare-fist boxers, child workers, town drunks, mean spirited officials, illegal pig keepers and bad singers all feature in ‘1868’ from a time when Merthyr was the largest town in Wales.
1868 runs from Saturday 2nd July until the 27th August 2016.
