This autumn the South West's biggest and most prestigious Annual Open Exhibition returns to the RWA (Royal West of England Academy) for its 165th year, showcasing well-known and undiscovered artistic talent in all disciplines. This year's invited artists are Christopher Le Brun and Tom Hunter RA.
About
The 165th Annual Open will run from 1 October to 3 December 2017 featuring artists of all ages and backgrounds, both emerging and established. This year's exhibition will include work by two renowned artists - painter and President of the Royal Academy. Christopher Le Brun, and photographic artist Tom Hunter RA.
Over 2700 works have been submitted by over 1000 artists from across the country and beyond. This year, the selection panel included acclaimed curator Marie-Anne McQuay, and writer, curator and lecturer James Russell, alongside RWA President Stuart Geddes and Academicians Stephen Jacobson, John Maine, Rachel Ara and Sara Dudman.
This year the RWA has seen submissions across all disciplines including painting, sculpture, photography, print-making, textile, film and installation.
As Bristol’s first art gallery and the UK’s only regional Royal Academy of Art, the Annual Open reflects the RWA’s ongoing commitment to championing world-class art in the region and creating opportunities for new and emerging talent.
All work is for sale and, with prices starting from just £25, the Annual Open a perfect opportunity to discover new artists or invest in established names.
The Annual Open Exhibition continues to play a significant role in raising funds for this dynamic charity (1070163), which receives no regular funding from the government or crown, in order to maintain its historically significant building and to present its ambitious programme of exhibitions.
