This year, the Open Air Gallery on the Oberbaumbruecke celebrates ist 13th year of existence. In the summer of 2003, for the first time ever, the bridge, which is featured on the coat of arms of the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district of Berlin and is a monument to reunification, was transformed into an art gallery. Every year, twice a year since then, the bridge has closed to traffic and opened to artists, offering more than a hundred exhibitors the opportunity to present their work in this extraordinary location.
As in previous years, the Open Air Gallery 2015 has selected a cross-section of young unknowns as well as established artists- both classic and modern, from international practitioners to the artist from next door.
The selection of artists is subject to a jury which avoids the usual commercial gallery or curatorial dictates. The artistic diversity of the gallery is ensured by selection on the basis of the quality of the work, innovation and originality.
The styles and media of the exhibited works promise to be as colorful a mix as the crowds attracted to the 13th Open Air Gallery, ranging from painting to graphic through sculpture and photography. From the outset, it was important for the Open Air Gallery to distinguish itself from the usual arts market: no handicrafts, only originals and limited editions will be presented.
A dance-performance by SR & Company take place on Sunday June between 2pm - 2.30pm and 5pm - 5.30pm
