About
On October 8, 2022, the Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA) opened our brand-new building with 13 Women, an exhibition paying homage to the thirteen women who founded the museum in 1962. Curated by OCMA’s CEO and Director, Heidi Zuckerman, 13 Women was presented with multiple rotations over the course of a year, with works from the 1950s to the present by artists central to the museum’s collection, each of whom shares the visionary qualities of the OCMA’s founders.
Over the past three years, museum has acquired more than 200 works for the permanent collection, adding works by a diverse group of artists who represent California’s vital role in modern and contemporary art, alongside works that demonstrate current artistic directions from across the country and around the globe.
To mark the third anniversary in our new home, we are presenting 13 Women: Variation VI, an installation of recently acquired works that encapsulate how we honor the past, remain attuned to the present, and chart pathways toward the future.
Artists: Eija-Liisa Ahtila, Joan Brown, Sarah Cain, Rineke Dijkstra, Amy Elkins, Barbara Hammer, Ann Hamilton, Donna Huanca, Luchita Hurtado, Nina Katchadourian, Kelly Nipper, Catherine Opie, and Marlo Pascual.
The 13 Women exhibition series is organized by Heidi Zuckerman, CEO and Director, with support from the entire OCMA staff.
