100 Videos
24 Nov 2023
Longsight Art Space
Manchester, United Kingdom
100 videos, 100 screens, 100 minutes.
A unique collaborative event testing the limits of communal resource sharing.
For over a year, artist duo Rowland's Leaving (Darren Nixon and Rowland Hill) have published weekly videos to Instagram, a shared practice stemming from their interest in world building, club culture and process-led work. To mark the release of their 100th video, you are invited to experience all 100 in-person for the first time.
They don't have 100 screens, but you do.
Darren and Rowland invite you to become a collaborator in a mass act of communal resource sharing by looping one of their videos on your phone. Phones will be installed safely (contained and monitored) in a gallery for one hour, enabling everyone present to experience a large body of moving image works simultaneously - a scale of presentation that is otherwise unobtainable outside of major institutional settings. Viewers will be invited to engage in the work without their phones, inviting exchange around communal experience online and in-person.
The event will also showcase a number of live one-minute adaptions of the videos, performed by a number of invited artists, and will be followed by drinks and music.
