How can design bring about a sustainable future? What is the
visionary potential of re- and upcycling ideas?
About
Imaginative designs and ideas in the fields of transformation design, material research, circular economy and social design are awarded in the 10th RecyclingDesignprize, an international prize by the Arbeitskreis Recycling e. V., Herford, in cooperation with the Museum Marta Herford. Following the successful presentation at the Museum Marta Herford, the RecyclingDesignprize exhibition is now coming to the Galerie Nord | Kunstverein Tiergarten in Berlin and will show the four award-winning designs as well as the thirty-two nominated projects.
The 1st prize was awarded for the transformation of the medical mask from a waste product of the Corona pandemic that is difficult to recycle into a seat with a minimalist, refined design. The development of Vecchie Mura, a new versatile material made from processed construction waste, received 2nd prize. Slate-like shingles made from plastic waste become an elegant exterior wall cladding and demonstrate aspects of resource-saving use of material. The special prize, donated for the first time by FUTURZWEI. Stiftung Zukunftsfähigkeit, Berlin, honours the participatory art project STREETWARE saved item. Discarded clothes are collected on the street, then washed and transformed into prêtà-porter fashion and new outfits, an examination of habits of production and consumption. The award not only recognises creative approaches to solving social problems, but also reflects the engagement of a young generation of designers with the relevance of sustainable product development.
