Artist Opportunities

Newplatform.art is holding an Open Call for artists who would benefit from our Professional Development Programme. The Programme consists of workshops and smaller group sessions in a range of topics, from how to write a strong proposal for funding, to legal advice and accounting for artists. We also host regular writing and speaking skills workshops that are designed to help you develop these crucial skills and connect to a peer network.

Eligibility: Eligible artists are UK based, over the age of 18, not currently enrolled in a degree programme, actively making work and pursuing exhibition opportunities and identify as an emerging fine artist.

What you get: The programme will run from mid-May until the end of the year. Each month we hold 2-3 workshops. These events will most often be presented in the evening over Zoom. This is so the programme is as accessible as possible to artists across the UK.

The University of Cambridge Museums are inviting applications from creatives to create a touring Pop-Up Museum in 2024 inspired by the theme: Our Planet. The Pop-Up Museum will engage a diverse range of audiences and take the Museums and their collections out into the community. It should be interactive, allowing visitors to handle objects and take part in activities. It will travel to community settings across the city and region in August-October 2024, promoting the UCM. The organisation will deliver the equivalent of 10 full days with a minimum of 50 hours of face-to-face delivery.

Eligibility: We are open to submissions from creatives working in collaboration with other artists/ agencies/ groups with relevant experience. At UCM, we pledge to champion equity, diversity, inclusion, anti-racism, and accessibility and welcome applications from all backgrounds.

What you get: We will be inviting short expressions of interest until 9 am on 19th April 2024. Following this process, we will shortlist up to three successful applications to progress to the next stage. Each application will receive a fee of £1,000 for this stage where they will be required to attend a two-hour workshop with UCM staff to further discuss themes and objects, and develop a small project plan (including a provisional budget) before presenting their final idea to a panel. Fee Up to £7,700. The successful applicant will receive a fee of £3,200 for 10 days (70 hours) delivering the Pop-Up Museum, a budget of up to £2,500 for preparation, administration, meetings, travel, and evaluation time, and a budget of up to £2,000 for production costs (including replenishment).

Zilberman is thrilled to announce an Open Call for Young Fresh Different: Miami Edition, in collaboration with Fountainhead Arts. Young Fresh Different (YFD) aims to provide a platform for young artists and foster dialogues between them and the gallery. Originating in 2009 as a means of connecting with young artists in Turkey, YFD has since evolved into an annual group exhibition curated by an independent jury. As Zilberman continues to evolve, so does YFD, expanding its reach with the addition of the Florida and Berlin editions.

Eligibility: Artists living in Florida State, under 35 years of age

What you get: Young Fresh Different Miami, in partnership with Fountainhead Arts, offers emerging artists in Florida a unique opportunity to showcase their work. Selected artists will receive a $300 USD honorarium, and their artworks will be exhibited in a group show at Zilberman Miami in the Design District, available for sale during the exhibition.

Flowing Streams is a program of 7 artist residencies in rural Romania. Practitioners from Czech Republic, Poland, UK, Italy, Netherlands, Germany and Romania get a chance to be one of the 7 residencies researching the cultural ecology of water in some beautiful and secluded places from Romania's rural landscape.

Eligibility: Interdisciplinary and socially-engaged artists, architects/landscape architects, hydrologists, anthropologists, community organisers

What you get: The residency covers travel costs from the applicant’s country of residence, accommodation within the premises of the host organisation and some meals, a fee of 700 EUR and a 300 EUR production budget. The programme encourages and assists the insertion of the artist into the everyday life of the village. The host organisation will provide mediation and knowledge of the local context, connect the resident with the local community, document the process of the residency and share available resources for research. Communal meals will be organised on occasion. Depending on each host organisation, means of transportation can be put at disposal (bicycle, car, or information to public transportation).

Cambridge Artworks invites artists of all disciplines to apply for the 2024 Caravanserai Summer Residencies, which are located in our bright blue bespoke caravan studio that sits adjacent to our main building in central Cambridge.

What you get: The Caravanserai Summer Residencies offer selected artists an opportunity to concentrate exclusively on their practice and take time out from usual routines for experimentation, critical thinking, and the development of new work within the context of a vibrant artists' studio community. Are you a creative practitioner or collective looking to take up space, share and inspire conversation, or build creativity and connection? We’re inviting artists, producers, performers, musicians, curators to suggest, shape and host a public programme event to take place either in our gallery in Hackney or via our online platforms. We will consider submissions for events on all manner of creative issues so long as it speaks to the theme. This might include – but certainly isn’t limited to - launch events, spoken word or performance, in-conversation and Q&A events or creative workshops.

Eligibility: The open call is intended to support emerging cultural producers who are working on a new or early stage project. Applicants can be of any age. We understand ‘emerging’ to cover people across a spectrum of experience, which includes those who have not developed an event of any kind before. The selection process will prioritise emerging practitioners above more established practitioners.

What you get: The successful applicant will receive a £600 budget as well as a £400 curatorial fee. The selected event proposal will take place in either June or July 2024. Autograph’s experienced staff will also work with you to: develop the event concept, produce and deliver the event, access Autograph’s building and resources, write engaging event copy to be shared on our website and social media channels, market your event successfully to Autograph’s audiences and the wider public.

We invite artists based in the East and West Midlands to apply for our open call to feature in our exhibition Made in the Middle which will highlight the wide range of innovative and excellent contemporary crafts being made in the Midlands today.

Eligibility: Artists living and/or working in the West Midlands Metropolitan Districts, or Staffordshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire or Warwickshire or the East Midlands including Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland. Those working in a craft medium such as: ceramics, textiles, jewellery, metalwork, paper, mixed media, furniture, glass, leather, automata, lighting, calligraphy, recycled or natural materials, digital and multi-disciplinary work are also invited to apply.

What you get: Artists chosen to be part of the exhibition will receive £100 free; a curator visit to discuss your work; invitations to attend development, advice, and networking sessions; the chance to invite curators and buyers to see your work; and being featured in both a printed catalogue and on the Craftspace website. Exhibiting artists can also choose if their work is for sale or not.

Canal Convergence seeks proposals for outdoor, temporary public artworks to be featured in and around the Arizona Canal at the Scottsdale Waterfront in Scottsdale, Arizona. Canal Convergence will be on view for 10 days, from Nov. 8–17, 2024. Some projects may be selected to remain installed for an additional 1–2 months after the Canal Convergence event. This year’s central theme is “Reflections.”

Eligibility: All local, regional, and international artists, artist teams, architects, designers, and multimedia specialists are invited to submit a proposal. International artists who apply must have remote installation as an option for their proposal.

What you get: We will accept budgets between $5,000 and $35,000 (USD). This call specifically targets outdoor, light-based installations with nighttime presence.

The Blunden Prize 2024 is now open! We’re calling for artists from all disciplines to put forward their ideas for an art installation at our Elm Fields Farm scheme in Coventry, which is set to provide 148 affordable homes to the local community.

Eligibility: Artists of any discipline and experience level

What you get: The winner of the Blunden Prize 2024 will receive a cash prize of £75,000, which will be paid in installments as outlined in the terms and conditions. They will also be commissioned to produce their piece for Elm Fields Farm and receive two additional commissions for public art at other Stonewater developments. Two runners-up will receive a commission from Stonewater to curate a piece of public art for a site anywhere in the UK. The location, budget, and location of this site will be shared with each artist.

Common Clay has partnered with the Working Class Creative Database to offer two one-year residencies for WCCD artist members based in East Sussex. These residencies are open to artists from low socio-economic backgrounds, who have limited access to ceramic facilities. The aim is to provide them with the opportunity to experiment with clay and engage in dialogue with studio members, visiting artists, and curators.

Eligibility: Artists based in East Sussex from a low socio-economic background

What you get: The residency provides access to the Common Clay studio one day per week for 1 year (June 2024 - May 2025) and technical guidance throughout plus one studio induction session and additional tuition if required. Studio visits and professional development with established artists and curators will be organised. Artists will share a 1300 sq ft workspace with access to materials, kiln firings, and use of equipment.

The Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers (RE) is offering a student membership of two years plus £1000 from the Gwen May Trust to eight recent printmaking graduates. Membership to the society includes the opportunity to participate in RE exhibitions for two years both nationally and internationally. Any printmaking graduate who has graduated between 2020 and 2023 can apply, there are two winners from each year.

Eligibility: The award is open to anyone who has studied printmaking on an undergraduate or postgraduate course (textile submissions are not eligible). All applicants must submit the requested documents of 6x images, PDF of image details and CV to be considered.

What you get: This is a cash prize of £1000 per winner. The prize also includes a two-year student membership to The Royal Society of Painter Printmakers. Membership in the society includes the opportunity to participate in RE exhibitions for two years both nationally and internationally.

Spend up to two months immersed in France's enchanting Provence & Luberon region. We are a multi-disciplinary residency that was created to offer an idyllic space for musicians, writers, painters, and other artists who seek to work undisturbed on their art. The scenery and beauty of the Luberon region, as well as the history and comfort of the house, provide an ideal setting to focus on creative work. In 2023 we were honoured to be selected among the Top Artist Residencies in South of France by the Art Connect Magazine.

Eligibility: Anyone who has never exhibited at the LUSTR festival can apply. In addition to the traditional sections Comics and Free Illustration, and a new section for 2024 has been added – Authorial Collectives. This section allows the presentation of projects such as printing workshops, independent publishing houses, or illustrator groups.

What you get: LUSTR festival is a week-long feast for the eyes visited by 4000 people from the Czech Republic but also international guests invited by the festival.

With support from Arts Council England, Habib Hajallie offers a paid opportunity to exhibit and provide mentorship to 4 emerging artists from ethnically diverse backgrounds, with connections to Dartford and surrounding areas. He intends to use my experience of being a full-time artist to galvanise the careers of artists looking to develop their professional practice. The exhibition will open in September 2024 at The Mick Jagger Centre.

Eligibility: This exhibition & mentorship is only for artists from ethnically diverse backgrounds. Artists must also have some connection to Dartford or surrounding areas (i.e either living in or nearby or can show a connection in some other tangible way).

What you get: Each artist will be paid a fee of £2000 and have the opportunity to benefit from close mentorship as well as a group exhibition. There will be in person meetings on: presenting work in an exhibition, sustaining an art practice & finding opportunities and creating an online presence.

This commission is an exciting opportunity to re-brand and refresh the canteen, a busy space used by staff, patients and their families. The 14th Annual PleinAir Salon is an online art competition with 12 monthly cycles and is open to a variety of mediums and styles. It’s not just for plein air painters! All monthly winners are automatically included in the Annual Competition where the Grand Prize winner receives $15,000 and has their painting featured on the cover of PleinAir Magazine, the #1 representational art magazine at Barnes & Noble. All winners receive exposure and recognition through our various magazines, websites, newsletters, and social media platforms.

Eligibility: Artists are welcome to enter as many paintings as they like, in as many categories as they like. There are 19 categories in all.

The purpose of the Trust is to encourage promising young painters. This could be through the award of a travel scholarship to provide inspiration and motivation for an individual’s work, or in the form of a grant towards the fulfillment of a specific project which would further their art education or career. One award is made each year. We invite painters to send proposals for travel or another project that would enhance your career development as an artist.

Eligibility: Our award is offered to a graduate (within two years of graduation) or a student in their final year of BA or MA course. They must be of British nationality and have studied or are studying at an art college in the United Kingdom. The applicant must be under the age of 28.

What you get: The artist selected will receive a grant of up to £2000

The Living Summer School (LSS) is a yearly week-long educational program promoting social and territorial innovation in and around the city of Kortrijk, Flanders. Young creatives, designers, and entrepreneurs collaborate with a network of local partners and experts. Together, they envision social impact concepts and design prototypes addressing relevant local territorial challenges. Within a week the participants create innovative prototypes, service blueprints, and concrete social interventions.

Eligibility: Applicants must be younger than 30 years old at the time of the application. We welcome applications from all levels of professional and academic experience and any field of study (architecture, art, urban planning, biology, sociology, engineering, environmental studies etc.)

What you get: All participants will be housed in DOK 27, a scout's housing next to the lake of Harelbeke. The LSS will provide financial assistance for travel to and from the summer school. We will cover all food and beverages for the entire duration of the summer school. Rental bicycles will be provided for each participant for the entire duration of the summer school.

The Socially Engaged Art Salon [SEAS CIC] invites artists to submit artworks that delve into the multifaceted themes of home, refugees, migration, displacement, and diasporic sensibilities. In an era marked by global movement and shifting identities, we seek creative expressions that reflect on the experiences of those uprooted from their homes, whether by choice or necessity.

Eligibility: The call is open and free to anybody [18+] who is a Worthing / Sussex resident. We encourage professional and amateur artists from working-class backgrounds, such as refugees, migrants, BPOC, LGBTQ+, artists with disabilities and artists from working-class backgrounds, to submit work.

What you get: Exhibition opportunity. The exhibition is part of Worthing Festival & Refugee Week [11 - 23 June 2024]. If the SEAS funding application is successful, up to five refugee artists will receive £50 in honorarium for their contribution.

What you get: We are an arts journal that publishes an annual physical magazine and can also be read online for free. In our efforts to keep this publication accessible, we do not ask our applicants to pay a fee to submit their work. We seek to publish and promote the work of artists who write. Dartford Borough Council is inviting expressions of interest from experienced artists, for the creation of a tribute to Len Goodman, professional ballroom dancer, dance teacher, dance competition adjudicator, Lecturer, and Examiner. This commission represents an opportunity for an artist to create an engaging artwork, which recognizes and celebrates the achievements of Len and his loyalty to Dartford.

This work will be permanent, and it is expected that the artwork will have a lifespan of at least 25 years.

Eligibility: Experienced artist. Current CV with evidence of up to 3 examples (maximum) of public artworks that have been undertaken in the last 5 years relevant to this brief. What you get: Budget for public art commission: £25,000 including artist’s fee, materials, fabrication, and installation.

The Contest will take place during the 16th Gdansk Dance Festival from the 26th to 30th of August 2024. Only autonomous solos that premiered/will premiere between January 1, 2023, and May 03, 2024, or will be shown for the first time during the contest can be submitted to the competition. The required length of the solo is between 5 and 20 minutes. The competition aims to support dancers and to promote broadly understood contemporary dance (contemporary dance / contemporary ballet).

Eligibility: All the professional dancers (with documented artistic activities or/and diploma in higher education in the field of dance), who are at least 18 years old.

What you get: The Prize pool is 6000 EUR total, 5500 EUR will be divided by the jury between the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes and 500 EUR will be awarded as the Audience Prize.

The Fellowship supports the Cavendish Arts Science ethos of experimenting, decentring and re-imagining. It is designed for artists to develop thought-provoking ideas through engagement with physicists and those in other fields, and to experiment with new approaches to their practice that are transformative and push boundaries. We are seeking adventurous artists who explore alternative ways of knowing the world, and who work with communities that are not privileged in the mainstream. The fellowship offers opportunities for playful experimentation, and the space to re-imagine beyond conventional artistic and scientific boundaries.

Eligibility: Any artist can apply for the Fellowship regardless of medium or practice, nationality, or country of residence, as long as the artist is out of full-time education by the start of the Fellowship, over the age of 18, and willing to travel to Cambridge. Artists with no previous experience of working with scientists or in a scientific environment are particularly encouraged to apply.

What you get: The Fellowship is financially supported; A stipend of 10,000 GBP(£) will be paid to the successful candidate. This amount includes all taxes and is a contribution towards the artist's living costs and expenses. Rent-free accommodation and meals will be provided at Girton College during the residency period in Cambridge. A travel budget of up to GBP 3,000 (depending on where the artist is based) will be made available to support the cost of travel to/from Cambridge. The production budget of GBP 10,000 will be made available to support the development of new work arising from the Fellowship.

The Cass Art Prize 2024 presented by The Cass Group, aims to champion contemporary art from across the UK and Ireland, with a £10,000 cash prize and a free stand at The Other Art Fair in spring 2025 awarded to the overall winner of the competition. The residency program runs from September 2 - November 29. FLAMIN Animations is a commissioning program for early-career Black-identifying artist animators living in the UK, offering £3,000 to create a new short animation. Part of Film London Artists' Moving Image Network (FLAMIN), the program aims to support artist animators as they take their first steps into a career working with moving images, with development support and funding for a new work. FLAMIN Animations look to commission Black-identifying* practitioners as a considered acknowledgement of the underrepresentation of Black artists within the art, film, and animation industries.

Eligibility: Applicants must be 18-30 years old For Black-identifying* artists (*Artists and Creatives of African or Caribbean Descent, Black African, Caribbean, Afro-Latinx and African-American heritage, including those of mixed-Black heritage who identify as such). Applicants should have a UK address Current students are not eligible. No formal education in animation or art is necessary. FLAMIN is open to artists working in partnerships.

What you get: If selected, you will receive £3,000 to create a new animation as well as development support and advice from the FLAMIN Team. You will also be entitled to a bespoke workshop programme with animation professionals in the art and film industries. Culture Moves Europe’s second call for individual mobility targets artists and cultural professionals working in the following sectors: music, literature, architecture, cultural heritage, design and fashion design, visual arts, and performing arts. The Individual Mobility Action supports artists and cultural professionals to carry out a project with a partner of their choice in another Creative Europe country.

Eligibility: The call is open to individuals and groups of up to 5 people, who wish to implement projects lasting between 7 to 60 days for individuals and 7 to 21 days for the groups. The application will be evaluated based on the applicant(s) goal, mobility relevance, long-term positive impacts of the project, and sustainability aspects of the project.

What you get: The grant is composed of a travel allowance (up to €700 per person for a round-trip), a daily allowance (€75 per person per day), and individual top-ups. For the next edition of the Watou art festival, we aim for a Watou shaped by collectives and collabs, celebrating collaborative creation’s diversity and strength. The theme of this year’s open call, “The Smell of Grass is Changing”, represents the adaptation, transformation, and renewal we seek in art, inviting reflection on our changing world and its impact on our creative process and interactions. Internationally acclaimed artist Koen Vanmechelen invites artists for an in situ encampment as an immersive experiment.

Eligibility: We invite collectives or collabs (a minimum of 3 people) to participate in the next edition of Watou Arts Festival. Selected collectives or collabs will work in situ at one of the festival locations and transform that location with site-specific (indoor and/or outdoor) artistic contributions. Thus, collectives or collabs must be willing to visit the festival during the summer of 2024 (6 July – 1 September) to meet with the organisation and to develop their project afterward. Mixed teams with participants from fields other than visual arts are encouraged to apply. The Art Festival Watou is known as a festival where visual arts and poetry merge. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

What you get: As a collective/collab you can submit projects for the next edition of the Arts Festival in two categories. Category 1: a proposal up to € 10,000. Category 2: a proposal up to € 25,000. The Artadia Awards provide financial support, exposure and recognition to artists. The awards are unrestricted, allowing artists to use the funds in any way they choose. Each year, an open-call application is made available in each of the seven active partner cities; they are Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City, San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, Atlanta, and Houston. Supporting artists equitably is a critical part of the Artadia Award process: we consider the unique populations of each community and are proud to reflect our country’s diversity with an Awardee pool that is over 50 percent female and over 40 percent persons of color.

Eligibility: Applicants must be a contemporary visual artist, making artwork for presentation in a contemporary art context: museum, galleries, arts non-profit, the public art realm, etc. Artadia does not fund filmmakers making films for distribution in cinematic venues, or those working in choreography presented outside of a contemporary art context.
