MAKE Southwest Open Call: Making It 2023

Updated: 28 June 2022

MAKE Southwest, in partnership with Design-Nation, Find a Maker/Craft Festival and Low Carbon Devon, is inviting applications to be part of its ambitious exhibition and development programme for emerging talents in the Southwest.

Held every 2 years, Making It aims to be the leading showcase for emerging artists, makers and designers in the Southwest, celebrating innovation, diversity and collaboration in craft and making. The exhibition will feature up to 20 emerging talents in the Jubilee Gallery at MAKE Southwest, along with an engaging programme of exhibitor and public events.

Eligibility: We invite Southwest-based emerging artists, makers and designers from all backgrounds, groups and levels of education or training to apply to exhibit in this show, and benefit from the support and nurturing that this group of influential cultural organisations can offer. If you are within 5 years of graduating or setting up a creative business and are resident in the Southwest, please read on and apply for free. We aspire to remove barriers and be open to all, and strongly encourage applications from individuals currently underrepresented in the creative and cultural sectors.

What you get:

  • The opportunity to showcase your work to a new audience at MAE Southwest (In 2019 an average exhibition saw over 16,000 visitors to MAKE Southwest)
  • There will be CPD and networking sessions for exhibitors specifically tailored for emerging makers and new businesses
  • There will be prizes awarded by leading organisations and people during the show, including Craft Festival, Design-Nation and Low Carbon Devon
  • There will be mentoring opportunities on offer from MAKE Southwest Member artists, makers and designers, established and successful creative businesses.
