There can be no love without justice

Updated: 08 June 2021

For Pride 2021, Queercircle and BUILDHOLLYWOOD family of JACK, JACK ARTS and DIABOLICAL are teaming up to bring art and demands for social change to the streets of London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Manchester and Sheffield. 50 years ago, the Gay Liberation Front marched through the streets of London to demand an equal age of consent. In subsequent years, this march came to be known as Pride. Throughout the years, the demands have changed, from decriminalisation to access to vital medication; to an end to Section 28 to same-sex marriage. This past year has highlighted the desperate need for protest: Black Lives Matter, the climate emergency and the occupation of Palestine and Columbia, to name just a few, have sparked demonstrations and raised public consciousness around the world. In response to bell hooks’ quote “There can be no love without justice,” LGBTQ+ artists are invited to submit work that raises public awareness and demands for radical change. Artists are encouraged to take an intersectional approach and submit work that highlights local, national and international issues. Submissions can but do not have to include text.

Eligibility: LGBTQ+ artists

What you get: The selected artists will be exhibited on billboards across the UK during July. Each of the selected works will be accompanied by a QR code linking to the Queercircle website including details about the selected artists and additional information about your chosen campaign, resources, demands and actions to take.
