Soft Focus Open Call for Video Artist

Screening OpportunitySoft Focus is launching our first open call to select three emerging artists each based in the UK and South Korea to participate in an online and offline video screening. The open call is to bring together artists from across the UK and South Korea, pairing peers from different networks and opening up space for new creative conversations. This project aims to bridge the gap, creating new relationships and friendships between artists from the different continents that wouldn’t otherwise be able to connect.

In December 2021, conversations between artists and their newly produced moving image works will be presented on the Soft Focus website and Space Ubermensch in Busan, Korea.

Eligibility: Emerging artists based in the UK work with moving image. Non-video artists are welcome to apply for this open call, however, we expect you to produce a moving image work as a final outcome. Please explain how you will adapt your work into a form of moving image in your application.

What you get: We offer an artist fee of ₩500,000 (about £318) to participate in this project and the selected artists are expected to take their time from July until December to engage with conversations and to produce new work. There is no formal requirement to collaborate and participants are able to communicate however they wish, however, they will be asked to share the process of their work with S/F. A coordinator of the project will also attend the scheduled online meetings to give support on translation between two languages.
