Updated: 16 November 2021

Maltings (formerly Berwick Visual Arts) and Newcastle University’s Centre for Rural Economy (CRE) and Institute for Creative Arts Practice (the Institute) are inviting applications for our next artist in residence opportunity which will take place during 2022. The residency is an opportunity for an artist to research and explore ideas around how we value food and its consumption.

The appointed artist will be expected to be resident in the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed in rural Northumberland for up to four months and use this as the context for the development of their work during the residency in collaboration with the local community as well as students, and academics at Newcastle University.

Eligibility: Applications are open to artists who have an established, accessible and socially engaged visual arts practice that explores food themes and can demonstrate this through a track record of creating new work through projects, exhibitions and commissions.

What you get: The successful applicant will receive a bursary of £15,500 towards the research and development of work during the residency and to support accommodation and travel costs, plus a studio and staff support.

Deadline 06 December 2021
