Mission Statement

Ricefield Arts and Cultural Centre is a unique hub of creative activity in Scotland, creating dynamic forms of engagement which aim to explore the vitality of visual culture. With an emphasis on cultural diversity, Ricefield supports artists of Chinese descent to educate and develop an audience for varied artistic sensibilities.

A Little History

Ricefield Arts and Cultural Centre is a registered charity which is at the forefront in the exploration of Chinese arts and culture in Scotland. We deliver quality cultural workshops, produce exhibitions, create events and provide valuable support to artists of Chinese descent through our residency programme.

Ricefield have an excellent reputation of leading the field as an arts organisation in Scotland which functions to serve schools, community organisations, public institutions, the Chinese community and arts audiences. We have built a distinctive role within the industry by creating an ethos of excellence within the company, through the development of our in house expertise and vision of a new artistic sensibility for Scotland.

Ricefield Arts and Cultural Centre was founded in December 2004 by two Chinese women Lin Chau and Julia Hung, their aim to promote and advance education of Chinese arts and culture in Scotland. Within its first year of operation Ricefield received the Empowerment Award (2005) for its contribution to arts and culture, with particular commendation given to how the organisation helped the Scottish Executive on the 'China Strategy Overview' (Caroline Slaven) in 2005. In September 2007 Ricefield was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee and in January 2009 it became a charity. The first fulltime member of staff began work as a Project Coordinator in July 2008.

Ricefield is now undergoing a process of significant development. We wish to position the organisation as a highly respected venue for the exploration of Chinese arts and culture within the UK and further afield. The strategic plan for 2010- 2013 is a major advancement of the organisation initiated by widening Ricefield?s programmes and the restructuring of its services to continually prioritise excellence.
