James R Ford: 33 things to do before you're 10

About

FERREIRA PROJECTS_01 is proud to announce James R Ford's new Residency project - 33 things to do before you're 10. Over a 4-week period Ford will create a room-sized installation filled with photography, documentary debris and monitors; a haphazard collection of documentation from the deceptively grueling 17 month online project 33 things to do before you're 10. In March 2007 Ford came across an article in a newspaper, which listed 33 things you should do before you're 10 and realised, he hadn't done them all. He decided that, since he was soon to be married and really should have grown up by now, he would work his way through the list with his partner Tess. The project took the form of a weblog, presenting photographs and videos of Ford and Tess completing activities such as collecting frog spawn, baking cakes and hosting a Teddy Bear's picnic. Some of the things Ford did as a child and some he didn't, but it's performing these activities/tasks from an adult perspective and physicality that becomes interesting. The results of this residency will form an integral part of Ford's solo exhibition entitled Only Boring People Get Bored. James R Ford is currently living and working in London. He has exhibited internationally and curated his first group show entitled Irregular Pulse in 2008. He has had work commissioned for the permanent collection at the Swedish Museum of Modern Art and has co-written and illustrated the book House Gymnastics. FERREIRA PROJECTS_01 was developed as part of FERREIRA PROJECTS' ongoing goal to improve accessibility and participation by involving the viewer in the whole artistic process. It allows the viewer the rare opportunity of seeing an artist conceive, research and develop their work before viewing the final outcomes at exhibition. The viewer is also encouraged to engage in conversation with the artist about their work through a number of different channels. The public programme, which may include artists' talks, workshops and gallery visits, are developed in conjunction with each individual artist during the residency period. The residency creates an active and stimulating space within the gallery for the exchange of ideas, with the aim of providing a more approachable and inclusive environment to work in and to visit.
