Exhibition of paintings at the Crinan Hotel, by Lochgilphead, Argyll

About

The third exhibition of paintings at the luxurious Crinan Hotel, by Lochgilphead, has become one of the highlights of the RGI's calendar of events - as popular with local residents as with artists and art lovers alike. The event is hosted by artist and RGI Council member Frances Macdonald. Together with husband Nick Ryan, Frances runs the hotel when not creating beautiful works inspired by stunning views of Iona, Tiree and Mull, or exhibiting in London, Edinburgh or Glasgow. The exhibition features a mix of affordable work from locally-based artists through to paintings from some of the 50 RGIs - ‘custodians' of the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, selected for their outstanding work and contribution to contemporary Scottish painting. RGIs taking part this year include Vincent Butler (sculptor), George Devlin, Jack Knox, Simon Laurie, David Martin, Gordon Mitchell, Jock McInnes, Archie Dunbar McIntosh, Hazel Nagl, Philip Reeves, Tony Scullion, Ronald F Smith, Helen Wilson and Bill Wright. Sian McQueen and Blair Thomson — both 2007 RGI award winners - will be showing, together with Ross Ryan and Robert Walker (former RSA Latimer Award winners), as well as Jacqueline Macdonald, Iona Montgomery, Robert Kelsey, Frances Macdonald, Jennifer Irvine and Caroline Hunter RSW RSA Argyll has attracted a large community of professional artists, several of whom sold works at the March 2007 Crinan exhibition, including Gillian Goodheir, Jennifer Irvine and Frances Macdonald.
