Illustrative Life Drawing, 1-day workshop

Take this opportunity to work with a life model for the day to experiment with different media - pens, pastels, ink, scissors, text - working on a variety of paper colours and textures to make dynamic illustrative images. We will be working in the studio with music, with light and with props, short and progressively longer poses, text and narrative set-ups, and you will be encouraged to treat each drawing as a story. This workshop is ideal for illustrators and anyone who wants to experiment with a new approach to life drawing. These classes are an opportunity to turn a life drawing into a story-telling image. We will be using observation and contour drawing skills, bridging the gap between the discipline of drawing and applying it creatively. Students will be encouraged to experiment with different media including pens, pastels, ink, scissors and text, working on a variety of paper colours and textures. The studio setting will be enlivened with music, light and props. Through a succession of short and progressively longer poses and narrative set-ups, participants will be encouraged to treat each drawing as a story, and to discovering new modes of expression.
