30 exceptional Chinese artists across 6 Manchester venues Artwork | CFCCA | John Rylands Library | Manchester Cathedral | Museum of Science and Industry | National Football Museum 27 September — 23 November Harmonious Society is the largest exhibition of contemporary Chinese art in the UK to date, featuring new commissions and UK premieres. The largest exhibition of Asia Triennial Manchester 2014 (ATM14), Harmonious Society will feature over 30 major artists from Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong exhibited across six city centre spaces: Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art, ArtWork, The John Rylands Library, Manchester Cathedral, Museum of Science & Industry and National Football Museum.”‚”‚”‚ Harmonious Society features a wide range of work, including painting, audio and video art, large and small scale installations and performance pieces. From a mesmerising artificial sun, to a deconstructed Tianamen square, from immersive tunnels to breathing books, Harmonious Society showcases unique and unforgettable artwork, created in response to the ATM14 theme of Conflict and Compassion. The majority of works are site-specific, based on artists' recent visits to Manchester and examine the current era of unprecidented social, ideological and cultural transformation. About the Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art: The Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art (CFCCA) is leading the UK in exploring a changing international dynamic. This is the Chinese century and Chinese contemporary art and visual culture is a vibrant force, fast gaining momentumn. We work with a wide array of partners to provide people with a lively and innovative programme of exhibitions, residencies, engagement projects, festivals, symposia and events.
