About

However satisfying writing is — that mix of discipline and intuition, which leaves you in command, even when what appears on the page has emerged from regions beyond your control — it is a poor substitute for the joy and the agony of love. e industrial, Jean-Michel Wicker's first solo exhibition in the UK is a meditation on human-machine reconfigurations, inflation and desire. Since the early 1990s, Wicker's work has had an all-encompassing approach to production, spanning publishing, typography, performance and gardening. Extending a nod of appreciation to Italian Situationist Giuseppe Pinot-Gallizio and his approach to mass-production and collapse, the exhibition at Cubitt pushes this legacy into Wicker's own symbolic registers. A total work spanning a 70-metre scroll, a newly realised publication and smoke. The e industrial publication is realised in collaboration with Motto and Donlon Books. Jean-Michel Wicker is the founder and editor of the publishing houses Le Edizioni della Luna (Nice 2006-2008), Le Edizioni della China (Berlin 2008-2011) and Ballabella Papers (Berlin 2009-ongoing). His work has been presented at Artists Space, New York; Sandy Brown, Berlin; Kunsthalle Zurich; Kunsthalle Bern; Kunst-Werke, Berlin; and recently at New Theater, Berlin. Apart from his work with printed matter, he was also the founder of the 27m2 urban garden Casa Jungle in Nice (2003-2009). The exhibition is realised with support from the Fluxus Fund, Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (IFA), Outset Contemporary Art Fund, Arts Council England, Motto and Donlon Books.
