About

Throughout January we will be featuring work from the Special Collections held at The University of Northampton's Avenue Campus, with displays of original prints by Paul Peter Piech and a selection of hand-made or limited edition books from the artists' books collection. Paul Peter Piech (1920-1996) was an American-born graphic artist who worked in the UK for most of his life, setting up the private Taurus Press in 1959 after a career in advertising as an outlet for his more politically motivated work. The work combines his characteristic lino-cut images with texts from poets, philosophers, civil rights campaigners and political figures. The prints on display have been selected from a set of 60 that Piech donated to the Osborne Robinson Poster Collection when he took part in the international conference The Poster: Dead or Alive held at The University of Northampton in 1996. The books in the corridor cabinets have been drawn from the collection of altered and experimental books, which were built up by the ‘We Love Your Books' Collective to complement the series of annual exhibitions held at Avenue Gallery and elsewhere between 2005 and 2012.
