Jeff Clarksons vibrant and colourful landscape painting occurs within cities. Narratives develop in the curve of a gable-end or the crumbling edge of a window ledge. Locations give up their secrets gradually and the familiar view sometimes reveals itself in fresh and surprising ways. Focussing on buildings can make other elements irrelevant and often people, cars and street life are not concerns of these paintings. Jeff would advocate this is not to convey isolation but rather to suggest human warmth within the metaphors of these facades.
