Brian Whelan returns to his old haunts; Piccadilly-Mayfair-Trafalgar Square-St James where as a young man, he studied, courted, drank, and worshipped. After last year’s exhibition at St Martin-in-the-Fields Church, Whelan returns fully charged for the Summer Olympics and Cultural Festival with ‘London Illuminated’, an exhibition celebrating his birthplace, with visual mindscapes and icons both secular and sacred at the Royal Opera Arcade Gallery on Pall Mall.

Whelan’s London pushes and pulls with frantic energy. The city heaves with contradictory perspectives; bending, twisting and organising urban chaos into a shimmering harmony.
