Where I End And You Begin - New Paintings By Sarah R Key23. Jun - 28. Oct 12 / ended Derby Museum and Art Museum
The Museum’s extensive collection of taxidermy was a springboard for a new series of paintings by Sarah R Key. But the exhibition as a whole features strange and sometimes alarming images that take off where the stuffed animals end. These new paintings contain the now familiar trademarks of the artist but with bizarre and darkly disturbing overtones that suggest political and social connotations.
“In these paintings ‘that which is observed’ is only a beginning, a filter through which the imagination can go for a wander” says the artist whose images are juxtaposed with examples of the taxidermy collection, on display in an adjacent gallery.
Sarah’s work is shortly to be seen in two international contemporary art exhibitions: At Ostrale ‘12 in Dresden and Creative London in Seoul, which also coincides with the 2012 Seoul Biennial.
