Crossing Borders 12 October - Lauren Potter and Scott Smith
What is it to invite being seen? The agency of the performer - creative collaborator or interpreter in the service of a choreographer?
The development of the performing self/ego. How do needs/desires/aesthetic choices alter over time?
Cultural changes and different models for authoring and distributing performance work.
Sustaining a performing career – economically, physically, artistically.
Lauren Potter trained at LCDS and subsequently danced with London Contemporary Dance Theatre for eight years. She became a founder member of Siobhan Davies Dance Company in 1988. Since working as a freelance dancer and teacher she has been involved in a wide diversity of dance projects both staged and televised. Other choreographers with whom she has worked include Lloyd Newson, Yolande Snaith, Jonathan Lunn, Ashley Page and most recently Rosemary Butcher.
Scott Smith is from Kansas. He teaches movement, makes dance and music, performs and collaborates. He worked in NYC for several years with dance companies, and eventually moved to an island near Seattle to research movement, practice music, and work as a landscaper. He now lives in South East England, from where he teaches movement, makes performance, composes music for performance and video, and plays music in public venues. Scott is a member of Movement12, a movement advocacy organisation based in Brighton.
