Wednesdays from 20th October — 8th December 2010, 7-9pm (Alison Newman) And Saturday 11th December, 10-2pm (Chi Zhang) 8 weeks + 1 Saturday Follow a chronological journey through a variety of book forms, starting with an introduction to hand-papermaking. You will learn a broad range of traditional Chinese bookbinding techniques from the Scroll to Whirlwind, Butterfly and Concertina bindings, through to Stab and Four-Hole stitched patterns; as well as the art of making paper from bamboo, mulberry and other fibres. In the final workshop calligrapher Chi Zhang will introduce participants to the traditional Chinese arts of calligraphy and brush painting. Please note the first eight weeks of this course will be led by Alison Newman on Wednesday evenings; the final session will be on a Saturday morning, led by Chi Zhang. All materials included in the course fee.
