Talk led by Artist and Curator Amelia Beavis- Harrison

About

Part of a series of five individual talks about the curation and exhibition of art work which will be led by five prominent curation and exhibition experts. The talks will provide a range of informational sessions or lectures about various stages of curation and exhibition. These sessions are ideal for art students, art collectors, artists and anyone else who is interested in learning the processes involved in collecting art and what goes into making a successful exhibition. The talks are open to those who could be new to collecting art, or exhibiting art, and want more information or those who already have an interest and experience. Saturday 19th 11am- 1.30pm Amelia Beavis- Harrison. Practicing artist and independent curator. http://www.ameliabeavisharrison.com Amelia Beavis-Harrison is an independent curator and artist based in Nottingham, UK. Her practice crosses over art forms and explores predominantly curating art outside of gallery context. Alongside independent projects Amelia co-founded Lincoln Art Programme in 2009, and has been responsible for the initiation of Prussian Projekte. Later this year Amelia will be curating a city wide festival in Lincoln, exploring the modernisation of situations. Outline of talk The Problems With Contemporary Curating Defining a Field The contemporary curator is no longer just an exhibition organiser, but has become a collaborator, a muse, and importantly a college. The practice has become a mind field of cross over and exchange, no one set of rules defines a curator and no one set of words can describe what a curator does. This talk will attempt to open up the subject of curating and explore what a curator may undertake, considering where the boarder lines are. The talk will look at curating in situ and the problems associated with defining a field.
