Talk by Independant Curator Charlie Levine

About

Part of a series of five individual talks about the curation and exhibition of art work which will be led by five prominent curation and exhibition experts. The talks will provide a range of informational sessions or lectures about various stages of curation and exhibition. These sessions are ideal for art students, art collectors, artists and anyone else who is interested in learning the processes involved in collecting art and what goes into making a successful exhibition. The talks are open to those who could be new to collecting art, or exhibiting art, and want more information or those who already have an interest and experience. Saturday 5th June 11am- 1.30pm Charlie Levine Independant Curator http://www.charlielevine.co.uk/. BIO Charlie Levine is a curator and writer working predominantly in Birmingham, UK. She is the Director of TROVE, an arts organisation currently situated in The Old Science and Industry Museum in Birmingham. TROVE responds to the themes of process and collaboration, with many artists producing work specifically for the gallery. TROVE, like its name suggests, is about seeking out treasure, feeling part of a journey and part of a team. TROVE encourages critical discourse, brings national and international artists into the region, presents local/regional artists, and commissions new works. Having written extensively for various publications and artists, Levine has recently been writer in residence for Summer 2009 on axis, contributing a biweekly ‘rant', with additional commissions, recommendations and debates. Levine has also contributed to artartart, a-n magazine, and written gallery texts for Pitt Studio and artists/curators including Matt Williams, Michelle Munn, Caitlin Griffiths and Ayling and Conroy. Levine and her work have also featured in various articles and reviews, and she was recently noted as an emerging curatorial force in Matt Price's article for the Guardian, ‘Art at the Heart (of England)'. Levine has a keen interest in archival modes of display as well as exposing hidden exhibition resources around the city. She has undergone curatorial/archival residencies at Margaret Street, Birmingham School of Art and Design and Arnolfini in Bristol, curated at Pitt Studio, Conveyor, Crowd6, International Project Space, The Old Joint Stock Theatre and the Worcester Open. charlie@trove.org.uk www.charlielevine.co.uk www.trove.org.uk www.curatorcharlie.blogspot.com LECTURE Charlie Levine will be talking about her previous curated exhibitions and experiences. As a former Arts Council employee she is also keen to answer any questions relating to gaining Arts Council funding.
