Aurelian Froment's Beautiful Work Comes to CCA

About

Aurélien Froment 2007, HD Video, 12m A magician pulls seemingly random images from his pocket, including family photographs, playing cards and film stills, arranging and rearranging them in mid air. Inspired by the 1930's magician Arthur Lloyd, the so-called Human Card Index, Froment plays with illusion and the authority of visual communication. Born in Angers, France, in 1976, Aurélien Froment now lives and works in Paris. Since graduating from the fine arts academy of Nantes, Froment has been working with different media such as film, sculpture and photography on a variety of projects including installations, scale models and mass-produced items. Invariably nostalgic, the impact of Froment's work lies in its ability to evoke a sense of loss, further dramatised through a sober and conceptual aesthetic vocabulary.
