Emma Hart and Melanie Stidolph, S.T.O.R.A.G.E David Smith

The Agency is pleased to present a joint show by Emma Hart and Melanie Stidolph featuring performative video pieces and large scale photographs both presenting an unexpected take on the pastoral landscape. Running and Standing is not a conventional two person show. It was conceived by Hart and Stidolph as a visual dialogue on the theme of animals in the landscape and the diverging approaches of action and contemplation / running and standing that can be used to capture it.

S.T.O.R.A.G.E
David Smith’s paintings engage with patterns. Handpainted dots are joined painstakingly to form organic shapes creating dense interwoven layers, which verge on abstraction. An initial series of works is derived from the abstraction and dissolution of the written word, whereas in his most recent work the artist has examined Rococo paintings and taken the illusion of depth as found for example in Fragonard’s oeuvre as a starting point for subtle variations in the density of repetitive patterns.
