Art — Site - Audience. An Illustrated Talk by Minty Donald (Artist & Lecturer in Theatre, Film & Television Studies, University of Glasgow)

About

From an intervention in the ‘public' realm of a civic square, to wall-based work in the exclusive territory of a ‘private' gallery, from site-specific performance to new media art disseminated through the internet - is all art site-related? With reference to her own practice as an artist, Minty Donald will discuss the relationships between, and definitions of, ‘art', site' and ‘audience' in contemporary art. From September 2005 to September 2008 Minty Donald held an Arts and Humanities Research Council Fellowship in the Creative and Performing Arts at Glasgow School of Art, where her practice-led research was concerned with exploring the potential of site-related practices — using projected imagery, sound, performance and sculptural objects - to engage with, critique and shape, conceptions and perceptions of the built environment. Her recent commissions include: the way I see it…, Centre for Contemporary Arts, Glasgow (2004); Home: Stornoway, National Theatre of Scotland (2006); glimmers in limbo: Britannia Panopticon, Britannia Panopticon building, Glasgow (2007); glimmers in limbo: Tramway, Tramway, Glasgow (2008).
