Holograms 27. Aug - 1. Sep 12 / ended Rugby Art Gallery and Museum

Floor One Gallery Exhibition
Following the success of the touring exhibition Holograms the first 60 years (which visited Rugby in 2008 during the 60th anniversary of Dennis Gabor's invention of holography in the town) collector Jonathan Ross has curated a new exhibition Holograms 2 which brings the story of holography right up to date.
With a stunning selection of 3-dimensional and animated images from an international body of artists and scientists, Holograms 2 clearly demonstrates the versatility of this amazing medium. Full colour is now available through a variety of techniques and the latest digital processes have made holography accessible to artists and designers who work with video and computer animation. Looking at some of the images it is hard to believe that the actual object is not really there, visitors are often tempted to look behind the hologram to see if there is a display case concealed there! Full colour holograms of precious artefacts demonstrate how holography can be used in museums to document and reproduce objects from their collections.
The exhibition also includes a selection of consumer products decorated with holograms that illustrate the many commercial applications of the medium.
For those who missed Holograms the first 60 years, Holograms 2 will be a revelation. For those who enjoyed the first exhibition, this one contains further delights and a truly memorable experience which will appeal to all the family.
