Doing wierd things to teddies

Messager gives a shot to the imagination like no one before. The show brims like a decapitated soft toy with its stuffing coming out - several of which feature next to panda heads sewn onto yellow teddy bodies and flayed giant felt rabbits.

Stories of childhood and the lot of the female are teased out, twisting and turning them to expose them in a new light. In several of the works there's a strange marriage of the mechanical and the fantastical. And it has to be said, Casino (an installation of billowing red silk and glowing organisms) does such a pithy job of saying so much about the limits and adventure of life that it makes 2D feature-length fantasy redundant.
