About
Undead Sun, Jane & Louise Wilson, 2014 (video still)
They were shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 1999 for their exhibition Gamma. Since then their work has become more complex, featuring multiple projections and increasingly elaborate staging methods to draw the viewer in to their carefully constructed worlds.Undead Sun is a large-scale video installation inspired by archive photographs, artefacts and diary entries. It explores the impact of the First World War and the technological forces that it unleashed. Strategic control of the skies changed how the world appeared from the air; terrifying gas attacks changed how we viewed the air itself.
Undead Sun was commissioned by Film and Video Umbrella and Imperial War Museums, in partnership with Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art and Wolverhampton Art Gallery. Supported by Arts Council England. With special thanks to Artliner.
