Pale Rider
A celebration of the life and work of Simon Black 1958-2008.
“Perhaps not since the Grosvenor School linocut printmakers of the 1920s and 30s has an artist portrayed aspects of daily London life with such a fresh, incisive, compassionate eye.” Philip Vann, The Paintings of Simon Black.
Simon Black was one of Britain's most original contemporary figurative artists. Before his untimely death earlier this year, Simon was working towards an exhibition of paintings of London life.
The exhibition comprises a selection of Simon’s works from his unseen London series to such seminal paintings as ‘The Sweepers’ Dance’ (2002), a major commission for the Royal Free Hospital in London.
It is fitting that this exhibition takes place at the Design and Artists Copyright Society’s Kowalsky Gallery, where Simon served on its Board of Directors for fifteen years.
