Wood Works
19 Wooden buildings from a unique wood school in Helsinki, Finland, are exhibited through models, photographs and plans. These innovative designs are an inspiring glimpse to the future of wooden architecture.
A new generation of skilled and imaginative wood workers are emerging in Helsinki. The Wood School was formed in the 1990’s to rejuvenate the traditional wood-working skills and practices of Finland, which were beginning to be lost and forgotten. This exhibition explores the imaginative creations of these students over the past 13 years. Although their work is based on and developed from traditional wood skills of Finland, their manipulation and transformation of this versatile material is original and refreshing.
