Why have certain categories of art and artists been excluded from the British art canon?

Why have certain categories of art and artists been excluded from the British art canon? What is the role of post-colonial narratives in British art history?

For this day-long conference, Tate Britain have collaborated with international art journal, Third Text. Marking the publication of Third Text’s A Very Special British Issue, this event will explore the defining moment of British post-war art in the 1950s and 1960s. Join us as we ask crucial questions of how knowledge is produced in British art. Speakers include Rasheed Araeen, Peter Osborne and Leon Wainwright.
