In Los Putrefactos Andrés García Ibáñez explores his own cultural identity, offering critical comment on Spanish religious traditions. This collection is often marked by Ibáñez’s grotesque manipulation of the subject, affecting the narrative of his paintings.
Included in the Los Putrefactos exhibition is Retablos, a group of paintings inspired by 17th century artist Zurbarán depicting female martyrs and saints painted as contemporary women.
