New Installations by Flis Holland and Andy Broadey
Two new installations at The Bowery art gallery, 'Build Up' by Andy Broadey and 'Front' by Flis Holland. 'Build Up' is a sculptural installation construcuted through timber, boxes, frames and stretchers which Broadey has configured in relation to the Bowery gallery space. The work attempts to lay bare the structure of his visual experience of two paintings by Barnett Newman,“Eve” (1950) and “Adam” (1951-2), within the architectural space of Tate Modern.
'Front'appears at first glance to be photographic documentation of aninstallation in the Bowery gallery space - turning it into a stage set(or rather, the back of one). Closer scrutiny reveals it to be anotherlayer of unreality - a scale model. Similar denial of access and lossof information is present in two accompanying series of snapshotself-portraits.
